Rage With Words is a reflective, artistic and honest visual narrative that will challenge and provoke the viewers’ idea of what institutional racism feels like.
Created as a collaboration between Writer Courtney ‘CourtsWrites’ Hayles, Artistic Director Ste Wing and Filmmaker Ben McCarthy, this piece was a project of passion for the creative team behind it, who used their own experiences of racism to capture a chillingly honest and personal perspective.
The project aims to make the viewer think about the generations of people of colour who have suffered in silence, and whose voices are mistaken for violence whenever they speak up. The final visual piece was created to evoke feelings of disorientation, unease, sadness and fear – much like a person of colour feels whenever they endure a racist encounter or experience.
Rage With Words was selected as part of the ‘Artists Category’ at The Aesthetica Short Film Festival- BAFTA Qualifying Festival (2022) and received its first Laurel. This was a tremendous achievement as it has been a journey to get the right eyes on this project thus far.
