Cars are sometimes seen as an extension of our identities. Particularly for
young men, cars can become symbols or power and status. As lead artist on
this project it's my job to deliver an 8 week workshop that challenges these
stereotypes about masculinity and to look at the pressures that are placed
men alike to ‘be a man’!
Working closely with Woodrow Phoenix and a group of young men based in
North Manchester, we created two ‘vinyl-wrapped’ cars covered in artwork
using identifiable brand logos and changing them them into something that
responded to the internal and external thoughts that men experience.
This project was exhibited in their heart of their community and served to form
as part of Sick! Festival’s 10- year community engagement strategy in North
Manchester.
Get ready to challenge notions of masculinity and everything that you thought
you knew about men! This project was created with support from Auto Trader.
